Once becoming a victim of identity fraud there are some key steps that one can take to help recover from the devastating blow to your identifying information.  The main things that could be affected by having your identity stolen is your credit score and your good name. Once your identity is stolen and purchases, loans and or credit cards are taken out in your name and not paid off your credit score will take a hit and prevent you from taking out your own loans, credit cards or even getting a car or home.

TOP 5 Ways to Recover.

  1. 1.    Once you find out your identity has been stolen. CALL the Federal Trade Commissioner’s Identity theft hotline 1-877-438-4338 I wouldn’t advise calling the police their resources are very limited.
  2. 2.    Keep track of your credit score and inform the credit bureaus. They are Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Once informed of identity theft they preform there own investigation to determine fraudulent accounts.
  3. 3.    Keep a paper trail of the transactions and applications the identity theft culprit left behind. It is impossible for an identity thief to not leave one.
  4. 4.    Terminate all accounts associated with the identity theft. Obtain new accounts credit and debit cards and in most cases a new social security number.
  5. 5.    Hire an Attorney!! This will be of great help. Trying to go at it alone will be challenging and most likely hurt you more in the long run. A good attorney who is an expert in the field will give you a better fighting chance at recovering faster and with less complications.

These are key things  that must be done after becoming a victim of identity theft. The most effective way to recover from identity theft is to not be a victim in the first place. Make you Protect Yourself against identity theft.
